Canyonlands 4 x 4 Adventure
Explore one of the most picturesque parks in the world! Discover dramatic scenery, ancient petroglyphs and even dinosaur tracks on this exciting day tour. Enjoy your 4x4 adventure through stunning canyons and towering rock formations that have been millions of years in the making.
You will take a scenic byway along the Colorado River stopping along the way to see a prehistoric Indian writing panel (petroglyphs - ancient pictures and symbols pecked in the sheer sandstone walls of the canyon). There is another stop for dinosaur tracks and to look at Jug Handle Arch. Soon, you will leave the paved road and begin your 4x4 adventure. The road winds through spectacular landscape with towering rock formations, open spaces and deep canyons. You will stand 400 feet above the Colorado River (on the spot where the final scene from "Thelma and Louise" was filmed). You will then make your way up the steep and winding Shaffer Trail, in Canyonlands National Park, where sharp eyes may spot eagles, bighorn sheep and deer. Stretched out before you will be one of the most astonishing panoramic views in the world: land etched by the power and force of the Colorado River 1200 feet below. Your tour continues by 4 wheel drive, descending Long Canyon to the Colorado River and Moab. Read more information about the Canyonlands 4 x 4 Adventure »
