This morning or afternoon tour takes you to an important sanctuary where farmers and howler monkeys co-exist in harmony. You'll enjoy exotic wildlife and have a glimpse into the lives of everyday Belize locals - all in one tour! Located only a short scenic drive away from Belize City, the Community Baboon Sanctuary can be found on the banks of the Olde Belize River. The site has attracted international attention for its innovation in combining the needs of humans with the needs of the natural habitat. It's a great example of the spirit of coexistence that Belizeans have with nature. In this grassroots effort, the villagers and landowners have committed to preserving the habitat necessary to ensure a healthy population of black howler monkeys. With assistance from the World Wildlife Fund and the Zoological Society of Milwaukee County, a small natural history museum and visitors center has been erected in Bermudian Landing, which is the most central location in the sanctuary.
