Huahine 4WD Safari Expedition
Are you ready for some adventure? Explore the island of Huahine by 4 wheel drive. Cross the bridge linking the two islands; Huahine Nui and Huahine Iti and explore picturesque Maroe Bay. You'll visit the Village of Faie, Maeva, Lake Fauna Nui and Fare where there is some time to explore and do a little shopping.
Depart in a 4 wheel drive vehicle and head to Huahine Nui, crossing the bridge linking the two islands. You will ascend the steepest road on the island from where you will have a spectacular panorama over MAROE BAY. A Polynesian legend relates that the God of Thieves, Hiro, cut the strait in two parts with his canoe, creating BOURAYNE and MAROE'S BAYS. Arriving in the VILLAGE of FAIE, stop to feed the blue eyed eels that live in the stream running through the village. The large eels are used to visitors and are happy to be hand fed. Continue to MAEVA, the place where is located one of the most important archeological site. The FARE POTEE, the Chief's house or community meeting place, was a small site museum until the April 1998 cyclone destroyed it. The FARE POTEE explanation panel is about all that is left but there are plans to rebuild it. Around the site are 10 or more MARAE, some of which may date back to the 16th century. Flagstones cover a white expanse of land along the shoreline. Also discover the shallow expense of LAKE FAUNA NUI (also known as Lake Maeva) which is referred to a lake and or sometimes to a lagoon, but infact it's an inlet from the sea. There is a number of V-shaped fish traps, made from coral blocks. These traps have been here for centuries and some are still in use today. And you will arrive in FARE, the largest town on the island where you will make a stop for some time to look around and shop. Leaving Fare for HUAHINE ITI, you will complete the circular drive around Huahine Iti and re-cross the bridge to Huahine Iti to make the drive around the island and pausing for photos in PAREA to enjoy the beautiful beaches of the island. Between Parea and Tefarerii, depart by the main road for an off-road drive through small settlements and plantations areas before rejoining the main island road, where you will have some spectacular views over the multicolored bays before ending this tour.
