Situated on the foreshore of Sydney's magnificent harbor Taronga Zoo has something for everyone, showcasing more than 350 different species of animals, and over 2600 individual animals, both from Australia and across the world .

Come nose to nose with animals of the world. Education Officers at the Zoo can offer people of all ages a wildly different learning experience, allowing you to get face to face with live animals. Learning about the various animals and plants in their environments helps to increase your awareness, develop an understanding as well as build a positive attitudes towards wildlife. A visit to Taronga Zoo gives both young and old alike the skills, and enthusiasm, to actively participate in the care and conservation of flora and fauna in their own communities.

Taronga Zoo was officially opened on October 7th, 1916. Since then the zoo has conducted 33 conservation breeding programs, 11 recovery programs, 10 in situ conservation partnerships and is involved in a further 10 major research programs for conservation. The zoo is a not-for-profit organization and continues to maintain proud international reputations for animal care and conservation.

Taronga Zoo's expansive Great Southern Oceans exhibit is now OPEN to the public and it provides an important and thrilling introduction to Australia's marine wildlife. The new 1.2 hectare exhibit features Australian Sea Lions, Australian Fur Seals, New Zealand Fur Seals, Californian Sea Lions, Leopard Seals, Penguins and Pelicans living in unique displays, emulating their natural habitats and offering spectacular viewing for visitors.
