Exhibition " Scenes of Impressionist Life" - Musée des Beaux Arts in Rouen
Exhibition " Crossed Portraits in Hugo " - Musée Victor Hugo in VillequierDeparture from the center of Paris, for one and a half hours journey to Rouen. Aboard a comfortable vehicle, you will have Wifi and educational tablets to brief you on the tour. Your driver-guide will be at your disposal.
Visit " Scenes of Impressionist Life" - Musée des Beaux Arts in Rouen
The museum will explore the intimate facet of portraiture, taking as its foundation the first painting by Monet exhibited in Rouen, in 1872, Meditation (Madame Monet on the Sofa). Showing about 100 paintings (Manet, Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Degas, Caillebotte, Fantin-Latour, Morisot, Cassat, and many more) but also sculptures, photographs and personal letters, the exhibition will lift the veil on the personal worlds of the great masters and the representation they gave of them. Beyond a narration of the personal lives of these outstanding artists, the exhibition of these masterworks will shed light on the major developments in French society during the nineteenth century in terms of the status of women and children and the role of the artist.
Your guide will advise on delicious gourmet places to have lunch before discovering Villequier.
Visit " Crossed Portraits in Hugo " - Musée Victor Hugo in Villequier
Thirty or so previously unseen works will be exhibited: drawn or photographic portraits by the members of the Hugo family between the years 1832 and 1870. The mother sketches her daughter, a brother his sister, Victor Hugo caricatures his brother-in-law, in the same fashion as Monet would later do with his own family. This period takes us deep into the expression of intimacy of which the Impressionists were so fond.
After the visit, transfer by minibus to Paris.
