White House, US Capitol and Smithsonian Tour
Board your comfortable coach at Union Station, and listen to your driver share stories about the history of Washington DC and facts about its plethora of monuments, museums and memorials. Feel free to ask any questions you might have as you travel around the city.
See the Washington Monument, Tidal Basin and J Edgar Hoover building (FBI headquarters) from your coach, and make photo stops at various sights including the National WWII Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr Memorial and White House. Walk around the White House Visitor Center to learn what the inside of the US President's home looks like. Learn about the inner workings of the US government on your tour of the US Capitol.
Spend the afternoon at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum or the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, where you can take a lunch break (own expense). Explore the massive collections at these spectacular museums on your own until it's time to meet your coach for your return to Union Station. (Sundays only)
Please note: Access is to the White House Visitor Center only. Tours of the White House must be arranged through your Congressional representative.
Mount Vernon and Afternoon Tram Tour
In the morning, travel by coach from Union Station to Virginia to visit Mount Vernon, the elegant plantation home of George Washington. At the Donald W Reynolds Museum and Education Center, learn about the life of the first US president through interactive displays, short films and hundreds of personal effects. Also, in nearby Alexandria you'll visit Christ Church, an 18th-century church that has been visited by several US presidents. Enjoy lunch in Old Town Alexandria (own expense).
In the afternoon, board a tram to Arlington National Cemetery, where thousands of soldiers who fought in US wars are laid to rest. Visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and watch the Third United States Infantry Regiment perform the poignant Changing of the Guard ceremony. Your narrated tram tour will also take you to the graves of President John F Kennedy and his brother, Robert F Kennedy.
Finish your day with another coach tour focusing on Washington DC memorials. Drive by the Pentagon and the Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima), Korean War Memorial and Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Return to Union Station at around 5pm.
