Journey from Bologna to Cervia along the Guelfi country lanes for a 2-day vespa tour. Travel an unusual and hidden route to discover the unique qualities of Romagna. Visit Bagnacavallo, Cervia, Lugo and Medicina.Day 1Depart from Bologna and reach Bagnara di Romagna, a tiny Medieval jewel in the Romagna plain. This area reminds tourists of ancient battles fought by different Signorie and Tyrans to ensure its control. We then proceed to Bagnacavallo, a small village that still retains the ancient historical center that was built on a medieval plan. The village proudly shows its winding structure, the long imposing Portici, held aloft by enchanting arches and a great number of palaces and churches. We also visit Cervia, the ancient salt city, as well as the old fishermen's village. The wide stretching pine-wood has undergone a deep change for the development of tourist business that goes from the end of the XVIII century to the construction of of Milano Marittima, the Garden City.
Day 2Visit Lugo, the Romagna town that was affected by the Este Family and is located on the border of the Este Dukedom. It is a lively cultural place, rich with monuments. Here, Francesco Baracca was born, and he was a famous and expert aviator during the first World War. In the mean square there is a monument to remind the visitors of his flight bravery. Not far from the monument is an interesting museum that was opened to give more details on the aviator and flight history. See the town of Medicina, where a legend narrates that Barbarossa stopped here and recovered his health thanks to a snake bite. The origins of Medicina are very old, but it was during the Middle Ages that it saw great development. The medieval features are well-kept, and it is always pleasant to walk along the narrow streets, roads and portici. The tour ends with the return to the original departure location in Bologna.
