A long-standing tradition in Thailand is the daily offering of alms to Buddhist monks. You can take part in this ritual on a 2-hour sunrise temple visit in Chiang Mai, which begins with a pick-up at your hotel at 6am.
Each morning before dawn the monks put on their distinctive saffron robes and quietly walk along the streets in their bare feet, carrying alms bowls and receiving boiled rice and condiments from local people along the way. In return, those giving alms receive blessings from the monks.
You can participate in this very special Thai custom by personally presenting alms. First you’ll enjoy a brief visit to the Sri Soda temple, and, religious festivals permitting, see the monks praying in the early morning. This activity makes for a unique addition to your holiday in Thailand.
