The 5-Hour Extreme Cave Rappel Expedition is the most adventurous tour in Horne Lake. You will climb, crawl and rappel down the seven story tall (25m.) underground waterfall called “The Rainbarrel” and enter into the most amazing “China Shop” room, completely surrounded by beautiful crystal formations. This tour requires 3 participants to run and has a 5 participant maximum.Experience the wildest adventure Horne Lake has to offer! This expedition presents a full exploration of Riverbend Cave, from top to bottom. It involves climbing, crawling, cable ladders and rappelling in a wild cave environment instructed by certified cave guides.

Begin your caving session 15 minutes early to gear-up and sign Liability Waivers. Afterwards, embark on a moderately strenuous uphill trail for 25 minutes (1 km), broken up by five informative stops. You'll see steep metal stairs at the entrance to Riverbend Cave, where you'll navigate in the cave over loose and slippery rocks. You must pass through three crawl passages, about the same size as crawling under a picnic table.

Descend the seven story Rainbarrel on rappel and visit the crystal-filled ”China Shop” at the very end of this amazing cave! You'll navigate several climbs back toward the surface including a wild cable ladder. This tour is not for the faint of heart!

The trip requires negotiating 5 different rope stations starting with a rappel of 5 metres, (15 ft.), climbing down a 5m. (15 ft.) cable ladder followed by a 8 metre (25 ft.) traverse line then a 20 metre (65 ft.) rappel, always secured by rope. Returning to the surface requires re-tracing your steps back up all the vertical drops, back through “the siphon” and the crawlways.

This fabulous adventure only runs a few months of the year. The tour usually includes a short "lights-out" session, before returning to the Visitor Center via steep downhill trail.

You must supply sturdy footwear and warm clothing. Participants must have recent rappelling experience, be 15 years or older and sign a Liability Waiver.
