Drive early in the morning to Ayutthaya for a tour by local Tuk Tuk through the historical park. We head out to Lopburi and visit the famous Monkey Temple and Prang Sam Yod are included before heading to our hotel in Phitsanuloke. After dinner, trishaws take us for an evening ride to the night market
Day 2: Phitsanuloke-Sukhothai
The Wat Maha Dhat is home to one of the most beautiful Buddha images in the country and is on our way before reaching Sukhothai, we also include a stop at Phra Buddha Jinaraj. We then visit Sukhothai before stopping at the Sangkhalok pottery village. End the day visiting Sri Satchanalai, the northern outpost of the Sukhothai Kingdom
Day 3: Sukhothai-Chiang Mai
We start our morning with a real-life presentation on rice cultivation which you have the opportunity to participate in. Our journey moves us, via Lampang, to Chiang Mai. In Lampang, we visit the Wat Phra Dhat Lampang Luang, housing the only Emerald Buddha other than the one in Bangkok. After check-in to our hotel, we enjoy dinner at a riverside restaurant that doubles as an art gallery.
Day 4: Chiang Mai
An early visit to a nearby temple to make merit with the monks is common practice among Thais, this morning you have the chance to join them. After breakfast, we take a steep road to Wat Doi Suthep: this sacred temple provides superb views over the city. Continue to the Talat Warorod, Chiang Mai’s largest market and rickshaws bring you to the Wat Chedi Luang, the oldest temple. Continue to visit San Khampaeng Handicraft Centre where we will observe artisans practicing the art of keeping generation-old traditions alive. The evening is reserved for a “Khan Toke” dinner accompanied by entertainers showing traditional dance and song performances.
Day 5: Chiang Mai-Thaton
We visit a sustainable elephant camp outside of Chiang Mai, where you get a demonstration of how elephants are used in the timber industry. A short visit to one of the local orchid farms just gives you a slight impression of the variety of orchids. We take one of the most scenic routes via Chiang Dao to Thaton, our overnight address. The caves at Wat Tham Chiang Dao are well worth the visit.
Day 6: Thaton-Chiang Rai
Along the way to Chiang Rai, a stop at the community-based tourism development center of Ban Lorcha cannot be skipped. From here, drive to Ban Pha Tai and board on motor-powered traditional boats for a three-hour journey down the Kok River. In the afternoon, visit the famous Wat Rong Khun or White Temple and statue of King Mengrai who built Chiang Rai.
Day 7: Chiang Rai-Bangkok
Visit Golden Triangle where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. We include a short boat ride before heading to Chiang Rai Airport for your Bangkok flight (domestic flight not included). A transfer to your Bangkok hotel is included.
