Get a real feel for the Moroccan Sahara Desert on this 8-day camel trekking tour from Marrakech.
Day 1: Marrkech - Ait Benhaddou - Ouarzazate
Depart Marrakech in the morning heading towards the south. We will go through the high Tichka pass at an altitude of 2260m, passing tree-lined mountain terraces and Berber villages. Stop for lunch and visit the famous towering ancient kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Continue on to Ouarzazate and spend night in the hotel.
Day 2: Ouarzazate - Draa Valley - Zagora
After breakfast continue towards the desert town of Zagora with its many palm groves. On the way, cross the mountains of the Little Atlas, Tizi N’tanifeft and reach the village of Agdz. Follow the valley of the Draa with Kasbahs dotted around and vegetable gardens and palm trees. At a Berber home, have lunch and then depart by 4x4 to reach the foot of the El Gatara pass (50 km) to meet the camel caravan for the first bivouac tea, installation, and evening meal in the tent.
Day 3: Zagora - Bouhjib
Wake up to a sunrise breakfast. Ride your camel and admire the surroundings. Pass by Alaiouj and walk until you reach the Achgig oasis in the shade of palm trees, where you will stop for a midday meal. Continue walking for about two hours in the small mountains of Jebel Bani. Set up camp in the bivouac in Bouhjib at the end of mountain range for the night.
Day 4: Bouhjib - Abidlia
Depart after breakfast towards the dunes. Take a well earned rest for lunch in the shade of tamarisk trees. We leave at around 3pm and walk more or less two hours through small dunes to reach the big dunes of Abidlia. Set up camp for the night.
Day 5: Abidlia - Erg Elmhazil
Depart after breakfast. Continue to riding your camel through the dunes of the Sahara with their own amazing views. Stop for lunch in the shade of tamarisk trees. Start walking again at about 3pm for about two hours until you reach the beautiful dunes of Erg Elmhazil. Set up camp for the night.
Day 6: Erg Elmhazil - Bougaren
Have breakfast and head off towards the wadi Laatach. Take lunch in the shade of these quiet dunes and tamarisk. trees Continue our hike through the river and the dunes of Bougaren. Settle in to your camp for the last time.
Day 7: Bougaren - Ouarzazate
After breakfast start your journey by 4x4 to the first village in the valley of the Draa; M’hamid, the gateway to the desert. Continue along the valley to the oasis town of Zagora where we take our last meal. Transfer to Ouarzazate then we spend the night in a hotel.
Day 8: Ouarzazate - Marrakech
After breakfast head back to Marrakech via the Atlas mountains and your 8-day tour will come to an end.
