The Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve is located in the province of Loreto, between the Marañón and Ucayali rivers. This 8-day, private tour will cover a great portion of the reserve by water and hiking on land. You will spend your nights in tents and rustic lodges, allowing you to get up close and personal with nature. The Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve is located in the province of Loreto, between the Marañón and Ucayali rivers. This 8-day, private tour will cover a great portion of the reserve by water and hiking on land. You will spend your nights in tents and rustic lodges, allowing you to get up close and personal with nature. You will see pink dolphins, monkeys, capybaras, sloths, and multiple types of birds, among other species.


Day 1 (L, D)
Departure from the city of Iquitos around 7:30am. Travel by private car to Nauta, then take a motor boat to navigate the Marañón River about 3.5 hours until you reach the national reserve base. In the afternoon, you will visit Lake Huaylla and see dolphins, many species of birds, giant trees and a gorgeous sunset.

Day 2 (B, L, D)
After breakfast, travel by motor boat approximately 4 hours on the Yanayacu River, where you will set up camp. You will hike the shores of Lake Yanaqucha, observing a great number of birds and other animals. After lunch, your afternoon navigation will be watching pink and gray river dolphins, and some varieties of monkeys. You will be taught the basics of survival in the jungle, techniques for walking, forms of natural direction, how to make fire at any time of the year. In the evening, sail in a canoe to observe large lizards and other animals.

Day 3 (B, L, D)
Continue navigating deeper into the jungle for about 5 hours to reach your next campsite. You will both hike and sail to observe a large number of macaws, and water animals. You will be taught about traditional jungle plants used for medicinal purposes.

Day 4 (B, L, D)
In the morning you will continue into the interior of the jungle, until you reach the checkpoint, Huarmi Island, and your next location for camping. In the evening you will explore with your guide, looking for mammals.

Day 5 (B, L, D)
More exploring today, perhaps for several types of very large lizard. In the afternoon you will arrive at Lake El Dorado, where you will, again, appreciate a large amount of animals and birds. This area is considered the heart of the national reserve. It has the most diverse numbers of species that you will see on your adventure. On all of your walks, you can appreciate the different species of monkeys, sloths, orchids, birds, anacondas etc. In the evening, take a walk or to see the largest species of rodent, the capybara, or large alligators.

Day 6 (B, L, D)
After breakfast, you will do some sport fishing, observe birds and other animals, learn about the life of the inhabitants of this area, and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Today begins your return journey back to where your tour started.

Day 7 (B, L, D)
Very early in the morning you will continue returning to the starting point, enjoying beautiful scenery and very colorful birds such as macaws, toucans, herons, and others until the you reach the Yarina.

Day 8 (B, L)
Enjoy your final breakfast, then continue the return to the city of Nauta. Travel by private car back to the city of Iquitos by road for about 1.5 hours arriving at approximately 6.30pm. End of tour.

Because this is a private tour, the program can vary according to the interest of the participants, either by studies, photography, ornithologists or fishermen.
