Karlstejn is surrounded by a stunning landscape which isn't usually noticed by visitors. During this adventure hike, you will see the castle, which dominates the skyline. You will also visit interesting old quarries which are connected to each other by underground tunnels.

The Famous Karlstejn Castle is located only 40 minutes by train from the center of Prague. This trip is suitable for those who don't want to visit the interior of the castle, but prefer to be outdoors exploring places where locals hike. Karlstejn is surrounded by a stunning landscape which isn't usually noticed by visitors. During this adventure hike, you will see the castle, which dominates the skyline. You will also visit interesting old quarries which are connected to each other by underground tunnels.In the morning, meet your guide at the Prague Main Railway Station from where you take train to Karlstejn. After your arrival to Karstejn village, you will walk along the main street which leads to the castle. Along the way you will get chance to taste delicious local pancakes and stop for other refreshments.

After a brief stop in this main tourist area, begin your hike into the woods, stopping on the way at a well-known quarry called Great America (Lom Velka Amerika). While standing on the edge of this quarry, you will feel like standing on the edge of a smaller version of the Grand Canyon.

Continuing your hike, you will pass other old quarries called Mexico and Small America (Mala America) with their own specific character. In the middle of woods, discover inconspicuous entrances into underground tunnels which used to connect all the quarries in the area. Hear some scary legends from the history of these tunnels as you enter into one of them.

On the way back, you will have the opportunity to stop in a pub for a beer and a meal (own expense) in case you are get hungry from the hike. Then you will head back to the train station for the return journey. The whole hike is about 5.5 miles (9 km) and you will be back in Prague at 5:36pm.
