In this tour, you visit 4 different locations : Batalha, Nazaré and Obidos, or Batalha, Alcobaça, Nazaré and Obidos, depending on your choice.
This all occurs in one day so that you may see the variety of landscapes Portugal can offer you. You have the option of joining either our small group or private tour.Alcobaça Monastery, The Monastery of Santa Maria d'Alcobaça north of Lisbon, was founded in the 12th century by King Alfonso I. Its size, the purity of its architectural style, the beauty of the materials, and the care with which it was built make this a masterpiece of Cistercian Gothic art. Inside the tombs are the two most famous lovers on the history of Portugal, Pedro and Ines de Castro. A beautiful and tragic love story in which Ines was made Queen after her death. Her body was taken out of the tomb and King Peter obliged the nobles to kiss the hand of Ines’s dead body
The Batalha Monastery : Monastery of Batalha, is classified by the UNESCO as world heritage. Built by King John I of Portugal to thank the Virgin Mary for the battle of Aljubarrota against the Spanish troups on 14th of August 1385, it is considered World Heritage by the UNESCO. Visit Nazaré Village, a small fishing village where elder women wear 7 skirts, then visit an area called Sitio from where you will have the most amazing view.
The last stop of your tour will be in Óbidos, a magnificent medieval town, which you will explore on foot, with the guide. This town will take you centuries back in time with the old white washed houses completely surrounded by the old castle walls. Take a stroll in the town center and perhaps climb up to the ramparts to enjoy the incredible view. Afterwards, you will return back to Lisbon.
