Discover idyllic Agios Nikolaos and Amazonas Park on this 6-hour day trip from points between Malia and Kokkini Hani. With a professional guide, travel to Amazonas Park, where you’ll get up close to endangered birds and learn about the nature reserve’s wildlife and rainforest conservation efforts on a tour. Then, continue to the postcard-perfect coastal town of Agios Nikolaos. Rub shoulders with the locals at the town’s weekly market and make the most of free time to explore, unwind at a cafe or visit Lake Voulismeni.
Meet your guide at your selected hotel in eastern Crete, and then set off in an air-conditioned coach to Amazonas Park. Located in Kourounes, the charming nature reserve specializes in the protection and rehabilitation of endangered birds.

Head inside the reserve with your guide and learn about wildlife and rainforest conservation as you get up close to macaws and cockatoos. You’ll also see donkeys and have the opportunity to interact with tortoises.

After roughly an hour, return to your coach and continue to Agios Nikolaos, a bustling coastal town named after St Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors. Make the most of free time during a visit to the outdoor market, filled with fresh, local fruit and vegetables, as well as honey and olive oil. Agios Nikolaos is also known for its gold and silver jewelry, and you may see the smiths at work in their shops.

Then, spend the remainder of your afternoon as you wish. Meander through Agios Nikolaos’ streets, enjoy lunch at an outdoor cafe (own expense), explore the boat-lined port, or perhaps visit Lake Voulismeni at the center of town. According to legend, the lake is bottomless and Artemis and Athena are said to have bathed here.

When the time comes, join back up with your guide and travel back to your hotel, where your tour concludes.
