As you cross the Tagus River you’ll discover one of the most beautiful regions in the country: the lovely Árrabida Natural Park, a wonderful green area with a Mediterranean charm. We also stop at Espichel Cape, Sesimbra, Setúbal and Palmela with its labyrinthine streets from the medieval era!In the morning, meet your guide at your centrally located Lisbon hotel and head by air-conditioned vehicle south for your Arrábida tour. Occupancy is limited to eight people on this tour, allowing for more personal attention from your guide.
Cross the Tagus River to its south side over the 25th of April Bridge (Ponte 25 de Abril) and discover all of the natural wonders of this region. The Arrábida Mountain is a green wonder opened to the Atlantic with its Mediterranean look. On the way to this beautiful place (it has an application to become an UNESCO World Heritage Site), you'll pass by several important places, such as the statue of Cristo Rei , a brother of the Corcovado statue in Rio de Janeiro.
First stop is Albufeira Lagoon (Lagoa de Albufeira), one of the best bird watching spots in Portugal and Europe and a very popular beach for the Portuguese families. The journey continues towards the Espichel Cape (30 approx.), a very special place known for its beauty and a pilgrimage area with its 18th century sanctuary of Our Lady of the Cape. This is a protected area and you even will be able to watch a hundred-million-year-old dinosaur footprints.
After visiting this area time to go the fishing village of Sesimbra (1h30min approx.), with it's impressive 12th century castle watching the bay of Sesimbra. You can try some of local seafood dishes, such as the very famous "Mariscada de Sesimbra" (local seafood, lobster, crab, shrimp, etc.) or the "Caldeirada" (fish stew with local products). Sesimbra is also very well known for the Marlin fishing.
After a pleasant lunch, the Arrábida Mountain (1h00m sightseeing) is on the way! You'll pass by beautiful green areas and vineyards where some of the best muscat wines in the world are produced, and watch astonishing views over the Atlantic Ocean. Have your camera ready for some breathtaking views as we stop in some outstanding viewpoints! Before reaching Palmela, there's the city of Setúbal and Sado estuary, a nature reserve inhabited by various birds species and even dolphins.
Then there's still time to the stop at the historical village of Palmela that offers a unique view over the whole region of the Setúbal Peninsula, Lisbon, and the Atlantic Coast. Experience the medieval labyrinthine streets of this quaint little village! Before returning to Lisbon experiment the traditional pastry of Azeitão (Torta de Azeitão) and a local Muscat wine (Moscatel de Setúbal).
