Your Auschwitz guide will provide sensitive and considered commentary throughout.Begin your full-day Auschwitz-Birkenau tour with a morning pickup from your central Warsaw hotel. Hop inside your private, air-conditioned minivan with your private driver, and gaze out over rural Poland as you travel south to Auschwitz.
After roughly 3.5 hours, arrive at Auschwitz I, situated outside the town of Oświęcim. Leave your private driver and minivan at the entrance, and join a guided group tour of the two parts of the UNESCO-listed complex — Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau.
Walk through the gates emblazoned with the haunting inscription ‘arbeit macht frei’ or ‘work sets one free,’ as your guide charts the harrowing events that took place here. It is estimated that more than a million men, women and children perished in the camp during its five years of operation.
Explore the barracks, office buildings and workshops where the prisoners provided forced labor, and visit the museum exhibitions that tell the story of the prisoners and display their possessions and other camp relics. While the facts of what happened here are distressing, your guide will explain everything in a considerate and sensitive manner.
After Auschwitz I, explore nearby Auschwitz II-Birkenau. View the preserved watchtowers, fences and railway ramps; see the remains of the gas chambers destroyed by the fleeing Nazis; and honor the victims at the somber memorials.
During your tour, there will be a brief break for lunch. There are no food facilities at Auschwitz-Birkenau, so please bring your own refreshments on the day.
When the time comes, leave your group, reconvene with your private minivan and travel back to Warsaw. Your experience ends with a hotel drop-off.
