You will meet your guide at Arras Station at 9am, this small group tour includes a light lunch and museum entry fees. You will receive an in depth explanation of the Battles, a map showing the area and a Battlefield guide for the area as well as stories of individual soldiers, bringing the Battlefield to life. Visiting the must see sights of the Somme Battlefields including preserved trenches at Beaumont Hamel, where we take a close look at trench warfare. Then a look at the 36th Ulster Division and their attack on the Schwaben Redout, and the moving monument erected in their Thiepval, the largest Memorial to the British Army in the World, with over 72,000 names of British and South African Soldiers who the fortunes of war have denied a named grave. We will see visit the interpretation centre which explains the Battle of the Somme and has some excellent video footage . We then move onto Pozieres ridge where Australians fell more thickly than any other battlefield in their history, 24,000 casualties in just 45 days, we will see the Gibralta Blockhouse Longueval and the New Zealand Memorial, Lochnagar Crater the largest of the 17 mines detonated on the 1st July 1916, after lunch we follow the German advance of 1918 through Dernancourt and onto Villers Bretonneux. We see the struggle to take back the ridge, Victoria School and Museum, The Australian Memorial to the Missing, the Battle of Le Hamel where the Americans come into the fighting and the advance to Victory, we finish the day with the crash site of the Red Baron before returning to Arras, drop off at Arras at approximately 1800hrs
