Leave with a unique experience and authentic image of Cartagena and its local people.We pick you up from the hotel, and then we travel to the central market of Cartagena. With more than 40 years of age in the same space, its an exotic place crowed with all types of products, smells, music and types of people. We start in the shopping mall nearby the market, to have the last minutes with air conditioning and an option of nice bathrooms. We then start to enter the market by first getting to know the neighborhood, the locals, and then go into the market to meet original stands and their owners.
Get to know more about the metal mechanic workshop, with more than fifty years of age, a symbol of cooperative work. Then we see stores of all sorts until we arrive to the music store, where we tell you about the popular folklore urban music of the region: Champeta. Here you learn the different styles, see pictures of the gigantic sound systems, and listen to examples that the owner plays for us. At the end receive discs of the styles you liked the most. You get to taste the region's most popular beer, fresh & cold and perfect for the music moment.
Then we take you to a local juice vendor, who shows you typical fruits of the region that don't exist anywhere else. They will have the chance to taste them and drink a cup of juice made with fresh bottled water. We keep going deeper into the market, we arrive to the place where the city's most famous poster artist works every day of the week. You get an option to have a hand made poster made by him with your own message.
Then we walk towards the herbsman stand, he will make a typical potion people use here to heal, and you'll be able to take it with you. We'll get to the original structure of the market, made decades ago, and optional we will take you to the butcher section to see the meat cuts they sell here.
Finally we go to Ceci's restaurant, famous for appearing in Anthony Bourdain's show. Here you will have the option to have lunch, or to have a small tasting depending on how comfortable you feel. After this we'll exit the market through the fish stores at the back, where our private transport will pick us up to take you back to your hotel.
