Explore the historical, cultural and natural attractions of Prince Edward Island’s north shore on this day trip from Charlottetown. With a friendly and knowledgeable guide, visit Cavendish Beach inside Prince Edward Island National Park, Covehead Lighthouse, Dalvay by the Sea, the Dunes Studio Gallery and Green Gables, a National Historic Site of Canada. Plus, take a brief city tour of Charlottetown, and stop by the Prince Edward Island Preserve Company. Your Prince Edward Island sightseeing tour starts in the Charlottetown Visitor Information Centre. Board your vehicle and settle in for your day tour, during which your experienced and informative guide will provide commentary and fun facts about all the attractions and beautiful scenery that make up your journey.

Before leaving Charlottetown, take a tour of the city to see its important historical landmarks, such as St Dunstan’s Basilica, a Gothic Revival cathedral that dates back to 1896, and Province House, a National Historic Site of Canada where the Canadian Confederation was created in 1864. Then head out of town, traveling for about 35 minutes past rolling hills and farmland to the island’s north shore.

Make photo stops in charming fishing villages and at Cavendish Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Prince Edward Island National Park. Then head to Green Gables, perhaps the island’s best-known attraction, made famous by the 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables written by Lucy Maud Montgomery.

The 19th-century farm in Cavendish provided the inspiration and setting for Montgomery’s novel. Today the green-and-white farmhouse is a National Historic Site that you’ll tour with your guide to see its Victorian-era decor and artifacts.

Next, stop for lunch (own expense) at the Prince Edward Island Preserve Company, housed in a converted butter factory from the early 1900s. Then head about 10 minutes south to the town of New Glasgow where you’ll visit the Dunes Studio Gallery and Cafe. Shop for original Canadian art, jewelry, textiles and crafts, watch local potters at work in the studio, admire artwork in the gallery, and take a stroll through the gardens.

Continue to two more coastal sights to round out your tour: the Covehead Lighthouse and historic Dalvay by the Sea. Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, visited Dalvay during their Canadian tour in 2011.

Your day trip ends with the 30-minute drive back to the Charlottetown Visitor Information Centre.
