Gain a deep appreciation for the arts in the Dominican Republic on a day trip from Santo Domingo to the inland cities Bonao and Moca. Shop for pottery, jewelry and the DR’s famous faceless dolls at various artisan stalls and settlements, and visit a museum and cultural center devoted to Dominican artist Cándido Bidó. You’ll also see Moca’s top attraction, the Iglesia Corazón de Jesus cathedral. After hotel pickup in Santo Domingo, your day trip starts with the 1-hour drive north of the city to Bonao, the capital of Monseñor Nouel province.

With your guide, visit artisan stalls and settlements where you can see and shop for Dominican arts and crafts like pottery, jewelry and faceless dolls, a unique handicraft of the Dominican Republic that can be found in a variety of colors and costumes.

Then visit the Cándido Bidó museum and cultural center in Bonao, where you can admire paintings and other works by this renowned Dominican artist. Your total time in Bonao is about three hours, after which your day trip continues about 45 minutes north to Moca, the capital of Espaillat province.

When you arrive, enjoy a tour of the city in your vehicle, stopping to see more arts and crafts, and take a break to purchase lunch (own expense). Then visit Moca’s main attraction, Iglesia Corazón de Jesus (Heart of Jesus Church), known for its glass panels brought over from Italy.
