You’ll be picked up from your London hotel in the morning on the day after Christmas, known as Boxing Day, for a day trip to Warwick Castle, Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford. As you travel by air-conditioned coach, your guide will explain the history of Boxing Day, a traditional, secular holiday that dates back to the Middle Ages, when servants and tradesmen would receive gifts from their superiors after the Christmas celebrations were over.
Make your way north to Warwick Castle, a medieval castle built in 1068 by William the Conqueror. Travel back in time as you tour the castle by foot with your guide. Immerse yourself in the days of battles, banquets and royal ceremonies as you explore the castle walls and its dark dungeons that lurk within. Then take a walk around the impressive gardens.
Hop back in the coach for a short drive to Stratford-upon-Avon, home of the world's greatest playwright, William Shakespeare. Take an informative tour of the town, which lies on the River Avon, and enjoy a photo opportunity at Shakespeare's birthplace before enjoying lunch at Marlowe's Restaurant, a popular local restaurant serving up classic English food.
