Enter an otherworldly landscape of slot canyons with towering red rock walls, sinuous curves and glowing light as you explore the Maze District of Canyonlands National Park on a 2-day backcountry adventure. Travel through the rugged terrain by 4-wheel drive (4WD) with an expert guide who takes you deep into the wilderness. Take challenging hikes into Horseshoe Canyon and High Spur Canyon to experience the beauty up close. Camp at night under millions of stars while soaking in the isolated beauty of the Canyonlands. After meeting your guide in central Moab, hop into your comfortable 4WD vehicle to begin an exhilarating overnight trip into the remote wilderness of the Maze District, located in Canyonlands National Park.

Cross the Green River desert to reach a gorgeous red rock canyon where you take a short hike. If you're a photographer, you'll find plenty of inspiration in this marvelous landscape. See even more incredible features at your next stop about an hour's drive down the road in Horseshoe Canyon.

Follow your guide on a trail that leads through slot canyons to a series of life-sized rock art panels depicting figures both human and animal. Considered the finest example in North America, the rock art is believed to be more than 6,000 years old. Expect a moderately challenging 3.5-mile (5.6-km) hike that includes a 650-foot (198-meter) descent and ascent.

After hiking out of Horseshoe Canyon, your guide takes you to a spot above Millard Canyon where you set up camp for the night. Enjoy breathtaking views of Canyonlands National Park at sunset and marvel at the sky as millions of stars appear. Feast on a delicious dinner that your guide cooks cowboy-style in cast iron pots over hot coals.

Start the next morning with hot coffee and a hearty breakfast as you prepare to explore High Spur Canyon, one of the most magnificent and photogenic canyons in the area. Your guide leads you on a hike through slot canyons with some obstacles that are easily overcome with teamwork.

As the canyon deepens, you come to a section known as The Circle, a 1,200-foot (366-meter) loop of slot canyon with sinuous curves that photographers love. As you continue, the canyon walls alternately open and narrow. After about three hours, follow your guide through the hikers' exit to return to your vehicle.

Leaving the Maze behind, drive across a sand-scrubbed desert, keeping an eye out for wild burros that live here. Your guide returns you to Moab by evening to end a captivating 2-day tour of the Maze.
