Nanjing, once the capital of China, is still an integral part of the country. This tour includes historical and cultural sites that provide a great opportunity for you to learn more about Nanjing’s history. Visit the famous Chaotian Gong, Zhonghua Gate, Nanjing Confucius Temple and Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen. Also enjoy a relaxing cruise on Qinhuai River!

Your guide will pick you up at your hotel in Nanjing downtown at 8:00 am and transfer to visit the Chaotian Gong, also called the “Heaven Palace”. The buildings of Chaotian Gong today were constructed in the nineteenth century and now a museum. This museum holds an interesting collection that includes fragments of the porcelain pagoda, the 15-century Ming Dynasty monument destroyed in the course of the Taiping Rebellion.

Then you to visit the Zhonghua Gate, meaning "Chinese Gate" in Mandarin. It is the south gate of Nanjing City and a precious cultural relic. Zhonghua Gate has the double distinction of being the biggest castle-style city gate in China and a structural element that is believed to be one of the most complicated castles in the world. Zhonghua Gate is known for its magnificent scale, delicate structure, and advanced construction techniques. It is an important symbol for China's military history as well as architectural traditions.

Following the visit of the Zhonghua Gate, you will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and try some traditional dishes from Nanjing. After lunch you will visit the Nanjing Confucius Temple, or called Fuzimiao in Mandarin. Nanjing’s Confucius Temple was originally constructed in the year 1034 in the Song Dynasty. It is a place to worship and consecrate Confucius, the greatest philosopher and educator of ancient China, and a man whose teachings still influence Chinese society to this day.

Later you will board a cruise on the Qinhuai River, a branch of the great Yangtze River. Qinhuai River is about 110 km (about 68 miles) in length and covers a drainage area of 2,631 sq km (about 1,016 sq miles). It was originally called the Huai River in the past, but it was changed to Qinhuai River because it is believed that the river was channeled to the city of Nanjing during the reign of Emperor Qin Shi Huang.

Finally, you will visit the Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, which is situated at the foot of the second peak of Mount Zijin. He is respected as the "Father of Modern China" because he fought unyieldingly against the corrupt Qing government and led the 1911 revolution to end feudal system and found Republic of China, leading Chinese people into a new era. Dr. Sun passed away in 1925 in Beijing and the construction of his tomb has taken 3 years since in 1926. After the tour ends, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Nanjing downtown.
