Climbing & Rappelling adventures at Palisades Park are perfect for first timers! The rocks are right beside the parking lot, there are a number of really easy routes and the park has friendly amenities like air conditioned restrooms, shaded pavilions and snack machines!
An Idlewild guide will meet guests at the main office to complete waivers and purchase a $5 per person climbing permit. The group will then proceed to one of the group pavilions for equipment fitting and safety orientation. Helmets, harnesses and climbing shoes will be provided. Guests are invited to wear clothing and footwear appropriate for being active in the outdoors.
The party gets started on the rocks with a belayed rappel (optional: there is also a short hike down and around) and continues with the first climb. Guests are welcome to choose any of the 50+ designated routes at Palisades Park; the guide will offer suggestions based on the skill level of the party and the quality of the routes. A half-day trip most often allows for a least a couple of climbs and/or rappels for up to six guests.
