This 2-hour small group tour is fun for all ages being educational, informative and interactive. Includes a complimentary drink on arrival.

Learn about our powerful Cook Islands Maori history, traditional medicines, ancestral navigational techniques, legends and more while local artisans and craftspeople demonstrate how they weave, carve and prepare their dance costumes past and present, among other things.

Your village tour begins at 5pm starting with a "Turou" welcome introduction call into the village gates, where you will be escorted by the knowledgeable guides and the beating sounds from the “Calling Hut”.

Your first visit is to the "History Hut" which talks about ancient warrior weapons, cannibalism, missionaries, the seven canoe migration, traditional navigation techniques, legends, first governance and more.

The next visit is to the "Marae", a sacred place where High Chiefs of the village meet for ceremonies and any issues surrounding the village and its people.

This is followed by a visit of the "Witchdoctors Hut" where the traditional Maori medicines are revealed and explained. You then move to the beautifully decorated “Fishing Hut” which talks about the old fishing methods and ancestral fishing techniques and tools, pearls and local pearl farming with tattoo tools and demonstration.

Moving through the botanical garden you come to the “Costume Hut” where again there are displays and demonstrations of the traditional costumes and how they are produced, weaving, Tapa making and more.

The traditional “Carving Hut” where the warriors show you the ancient carving tools and give you a chance to drum their “pate’s” known as the local drums of the Cook Islands.

You will be given the opportunity to swing those hips as the warriors drum a symphony beat.

One of the last huts is the “Coconut Hut” which explains and demonstrates everything to do with the “Tree of Life” with a full entertaining show of coconut climbing and husking.

Your Village Tour has arts and other aspects of Cook Islands Maori culture reflective of a proud race of Polynesians who will graciously share their culture and tradition with you.
