Gun-Galuut Nature Reserve is a protected area in Tuv Province, 81 miles (130 kilometers) east of Ulaanbaatar, for conservation of globally endangered species. It comprises of three zones: tourism, limited, and the Core, which are steppes of the ecosystem with rocky mountains, small lakes, rivers, streams and wetland covering an area of approximately 20,000 hectare. Although the reserve is comparatively small, the diversity of ecosystem here is impressive.

Rise early in the morning to meet up with your guide at your hotel lobby and be driven to Gun-Galuut Nature Reserve. You will travel on better conditioned asphalt roads for approximately two hours. Along the way, get a glimpse of nomadic lifestyle right outside of Ulaanbaatar.
After arriving at Gun-Galuut Nature Reserve, a welcome lunch at the “Steppe Nomads” tourist ger camp will be served. After the meal, trek in the vicinity to enjoy true colors of the wild. See the Argali (wild sheep) and other wild animals including marmots, deer, gazelles, fox, steppe fox, and many more roaming freely on the steppe.
Later, you will a visit a local nomad family to explore their unique lifestyle. Converse with members of the family as well as tasting delicious home-made food. Photo opportunity with the nomad family is available at additional cost. After spending your day in beautiful Gun-Galuut Nature Reserve and visiting hospitable nomad family, you will be transferred back to your Ulaanbaatar hotel where this memorable day trip concludes.
