At Providenciales International Airport, check in at the Caicos Express or Air Turks and Caicos airline counter 30 minutes prior to your flight to Grand Turk or Salt Cay—depending on which option you select. Upon landing, you’ll be transferred to a power catamaran to begin your 3- to 4-hour Turks and Caicos whale-watching expedition.

Embark with a crew of knowledgeable guides in search of North Atlantic humpback whales—part of a 4,000-strong herd—that spend winters around Grand Turk and Salt Cay. These two islands are located only seven miles apart, and the whales’ annual migratory route passes right through these warm tropical waters. Your crew is experienced at using the latest technology for tracking the whales, which require patience to find and approach without scaring away.

You’ll benefit from your guides’ vast knowledge and expertise as you spot these magnificent sea mammals and learn to document their behavior. Keep an eye out for the female humpback whale, the largest of the species, which ranges in length from 40-45 feet (12-14 meters), while the male grows between 36-41 feet (11-12.5 meters) long. Humpback calves, which weigh 1,000 pounds (453 kilos) at birth, feed three times daily, consuming 80 gallons (302 liters) of their mother’s milk. If you’re lucky, you may get the chance to see a mother and calf! (Please note: While spotting whales is common, it is not guaranteed during your expedition.)

When the whale-watching portion of your tour is complete, enjoy lunch and some free time to explore the island on your own before flying back to Providenciales. (See options below.)

Option 1: Grand Turk
Enjoy lunch at the Sandbar Restaurant, a typical beach bar with a selection of seafood, burgers, chicken or ribs. Take in the views of the gorgeous turquoise water while sipping an ice cold beer or rum punch (drinks at own expense). Afterward, enjoy free time exploring Turks and Caicos National Museum, shopping or just chilling on the beach!

Option 2: Salt Cay
Enjoy lunch at Porter’s Island Thyme for a great taste of Caribbean fusion cuisine. Dine in the bright and breezy restaurant or on the back deck that overlooks the entire island. Afterward, relax on the long stretches of white sand beaches or visit the White House, a British colonial-style salt merchants’ home that dates back to the early 1800s—the oldest home on Salt Cay!
