Take a day trip from Edinburgh to the beautiful Scottish Highlands and get to know Loch Lomond, Trossachs National Park and Stirling Castle. The remote region is home to spectacular natural scenery with picturesque dales, mountains and lochs as well as quaint villages such as Aberfoyle. After visiting the banks of Loch Lomond and passing through Trossachs National Park, explore Aberfoyle before continuing to the town of Stirling. Discover Stirling Castle on a tour (entrance own expense), and then return to Edinburgh.Meet your guide in central Edinburgh, and then head north by minivan to the banks of Loch Lomond, the glorious freshwater loch on the borders of the Highlands. Enjoy panoramic views of the loch against a backdrop of the Highland’s heather-clad mountains, and then take some time to walk along the banks and perhaps explore the visitor center, Loch Lomond Shores. You can also opt to enjoy a cruise around the loch at your own expense.

From the famous stretch of water, continue by minivan to Trossachs National Park, home to some of Scotland’s most iconic Highland scenery. Pass through the twisting valleys, admiring the glens, loch and dense wilderness of the dales that embody the raw beauty of the Highlands, and then travel south to the quaint village of Aberfoyle. Tucked away in the heart of Trossachs National Park, the charming village is the perfect place to stretch your legs on a stroll. Do just that, and make the most of some free time for lunch in a local restaurant (own expense).

In the afternoon, leave the Highlands and travel east to Scotland’s former capital of Stirling. Head inside its star attraction — Stirling Castle — and discover the places where many Scottish royals were crowned on a walking tour. The entrance fee is at your own expense, but once inside you’ll see some of the most impressive public rooms in Scotland including the lavish James IV’s Hall and the Renaissance Royal Palace. Learn how the castle was central to William Wallace's fight in the Wars of Independence and hosted bloody sieges as well as much political intrigue.

Leave the castle after your tour, and follow your guide into the city center to pose for photos by the Wallace Monument, an impressive tower built to honor Scotland's famous hero, Sir William Wallace. After admiring the monument and hearing of its history, start your journey back to Edinburgh. Your tour then finishes with a drop-off at the start point in the early evening.
