Make your way to the departure point and then cruise across dazzling blue waters on the spacious Yankee Freedom III, a high-speed catamaran that ferries passengers from Key West to Dry Tortugas National Park. Dig in to breakfast as you sail past Boca Grande Key, the Marquesas Keys atoll and the Rebecca Shoal Channel. Stroll the decks and take in views of your pristine surroundings while you listen to a naturalist talk about the area and the national park.

After traveling almost 70 miles (113km) west of Key West, arrive at the cluster of tropical islands that make up the Dry Tortugas. Disembark at Fort Jefferson, located on Garden Key, and begin exploring. On a 45-minute tour of the fort, discover seashells on the beach, watch tropical birds swoop through the air, or perhaps swim or snorkel around the coral reef. Dolphins and sea turtles are often seen in the warm waters. When you need a break, recoup with a buffet lunch on the vessel or on shore.

Reboard your boat in the mid-afternoon and relax during your voyage back to Key West. Soak up the remaining rays of the sun and enjoy a beverage from one of the boat’s bars (own expense) before arriving back in Key West.
