In this workshop you will learn the revolutionary technique invented by Antonio Gaudi which can be found all over Barcelona's main monuments: La Pedrera, Casa Batllo, Parque Guell, Sagrada Familia… You will learn the basics of the technique, to handle tools, choose your design and work out your first masterpiece of trencadis-mosaic: a coaster, a mirror, a photo frame, elephant or other object. Learn the art of ‘trencadís’ mosaic of Antoni Gaudí and learn all the secrets in this unique workshop, as you create your own mosaic. The Trencadís is a mosaic type made with irregular shards of pottery, marble or glass. This technique was widespread in art nouveau architecture. The architect Antoni Gaudí took the technique one step further while using ceramic and pottery rejects, plates and coffee cups, and giving the pieces their final shape with a hammer and pliers. This way, the pieces would fit together perfectly.
Nowadays we can still see original examples of Gaudí’s handiwork in most Barcelona landmarks: Park Güell, the Casa Batlló, La Pedrera and the Sagrada Família.
During the workshop, you’ll learn how to handle tools, choose your design and colours and create your first work in ‘trencadís’. You will also take away with you a special and unique reminder of Gaudí’s Barcelona. Please note that after you have finished your artwork, it will have to dry, and later on you need to apply grouting. If you do a morning workshop, you can pick up your trencadis-mosaic artwork in the afternoon of the same day. If you come in the afternoon, normally you can pick up your artwork next day morning.
