It had French caves, probably for wine. Later on, I found out that those were German Unterstanden; Dug outs. The posts and barbed wire in it, which I used to enclose my property with, were found to be 1st world war remnants. I lived in the middle of a former battlefield! My quest for "What happened in my garden?" began. Now many years later, many books, talks and collaborations later, I know a lot about 'my' surroundings and I guide people through the fantastic Argonne Forest to share this history. I adapt the level of energy in the group, we can make easy walks and tough ones. Along the pavement or up and down ravines. I give several tours; the Lost Battalion, Along the front line, Behind the front line, Night Walk through the trenches, in Autry and around. The Argonne Forest is an exceptionally well preserved forest, with a lot of trenches, bunkers, tunnels, camp sites, and stories in it.
I guide for few hours up to 1 week persons or groups around and I read out loud daily stories written 100 years ago by French or German soldiers on that same right spot. So it becomes vividly, this beautiful sunny forest today, was once a harsh battlefield. Please come along!
