The Fontana del Nettuno, Fountain of Neptune, stands in Piazza Navona, which is where you will head next. The base of the fountain was begun in 1574 and used without statues for over 300 years. Neptune and the rest were added beginning in 1870.
The Fontana della Barcaccia, Fountain of the Old Boat, is a Baroque fresh-water fountain in Piazza di Spagna, just below the Spanish Steps. It is so named because it is in the shape of a half-sunken ship with water overflowing its bows.
Piazza Barberini is home to Fontana del Tritone, or Triton Fountain. Public fountains had been providing water to the citizens of Rome for some time, but they were always open, passive basins. Triton Fountain was one of the first sculptural fountains that provided both form and function.
No visit to Rome would be complete without a stop at Trevi Fountain. Very recently renovated, it is one of the most famous fountains in the world. Make sure to toss a coin over your shoulder and wish to return.
