The creations of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and testimonies of his ambition to completely change the capital in a way that fitted his idea of a 'new city'.

Churches saved from demolition We visit two of the eight churches that were miraculously saved and moved even 300 meters away from their original place. They were hidden behind tall blocks, this being their only way of survival. Some of them were moved at temperatures of -20 or -25 degrees Celsius.

The Palace of the Parliament Locally known as the ‘House of the People’, the Palace of the Parliament is no doubt the most famous landmark of Romania’s communist period and the second largest administrative building in the world. Part of Ceausescu’s vision of creating his own version of the capital, the construction is truly monumental with more than 1,000 rooms with hand-made decorations from the finest and most expensive materials, including 1 million cubic meters of marble and 3,5 tonnes of crystal.

The Old City Center Conserving some of the oldest monuments in the capital, but also lively streets packed with hundreds of bars and clubs, this otherwise small part of Bucharest is one of its most vibrant stops and a must of any history tour. We'll discover the unique architecture and history of its streets while observing key historical landmarks like the former Palace of the Post, the National Bank of Romania, the Macca-Villacrosse passage, centuries old churches and inns.

You'll stop for lunch in the Old City Center.

The Old Court We visit the Old Court that was for centuries the political center of Bucharest, the city practically expanding around it. The best known medieval prince connected to the Old Court is Vlad the Impaler.

The University Square The Russian Church, the University and Coltea Church are our main points of interest in this square, one of the most beautiful in the city.

The 21st of December Square A key place for the collective memory of Bucharest, this square is deeply linked to the violent events of December 1989 and the early 90's. Groups of people occupied the square on December 21 to protest against the communist regime, they were arrested, beaten or shot in the evening of the same day.

Victoriei Avenue Stretching on 2.7 kilometers from the United Nations Square to the Victoriei Square, Victoriei Avenue is the best witness of the most glorious period of Bucharest. Its main attractions include the CEC Palace, the Military Club, the Atheneum, the Palace Cantacuzino or the Revolution Square where Nicolae Ceausescu held his last speech in December 1989.
