Dyrfjoll rise up an altitude of 1136m between the marshy Héraðssandur plains and Borgarfjörður Eystri. The name means Door Mountain (Dyrfjöll). It is famous for the huge gap or door in the middle of the mountain.
The region is known for the stories of elves and they say that the elf queen of Iceland resides there.
