The Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre specializes in caring for baby orphan orangutans and teaching them the survival skills they would have learned from their mothers under normal conditions. The orangutans are not kept in captivity, but rather come and go as they please while becoming used to living again after being held in captivity. The Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre specializes in caring for baby orphan orangutans and teaching them the survival skills they would have learned from their mothers under normal conditions. The orangutans are not kept in captivity, but rather come and go as they please while becoming used to living again after being held in captivity. These orangutans are around 2 years old and are true entertainers!Board an early morning flight bound for the historic Sandakan, one of Sabah's earliest settlements. You will be picked up from the airport and taken to the renowned Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary.
Upon arrival, you will register your name before being taken to the viewing gallery and feeding platform. You can view Apes being fed milk and bananas here at 2 different times, 10am or 3pm. Feeding time also attracts long-tailed macaques on special occasions. See young orphaned orangutans being taught survival skills so that they may eventually return to their natural habitat.
During your visit you can walk along a nature trail to see vegetation and animal life in the tropical rainforest area of the Center. After departing the Center you will stop lunch at a local restaurant in Sandakan.
In the afternoon you will be taken on a city tour of Sandakan. The tour includes a visit to the Observation Pavilion, Central Market, Chinese Temple, Church and a drive to the Water Village to see the houses of local tribes perched on stilts above the water.
After the Sandakan city tour you will be dropped at the Sandakan Airport.
