Departing from Oxford, the tour takes you through the town of Woodstock (the site of Blenheim Palace – Sir Winston Churchill’s birthplace). You then take a cross-country route via delightful Cotswold ironstone villages, castles and stately homes. You pass the site of the famous English Civil War Battle of Edgehill and then arrive in Warwick via the beautiful Charlecote Park.

In Warwick you will have time to walk around the town, with its medieval timber-framed houses and have a brief visit to Warwick Castle if you wish (own expense). This is one of the most fascinating medieval castles in Britain and was the home of the Earls of Warwick for many centuries.

You leave Warwick and head to Stratford, where after a break for lunch (own expense), you will be taken on a guided walk through Shakespeare’s home town, visiting the Shakespeare Houses in the centre of the town, the Holy Trinity Church, where the ‘bard’ is buried and the Shakespeare Theatre on the banks of the picturesque River Avon. Your ‘Shakespeare Experience’ finishes with a visit to the charming village of Shottery and Anne Hathaway’s cottage.

You return to Oxford through the vibrant market towns of Shipston-on-Stour and Chipping Norton.
