You will be picked at 09:00am from your hotel in Zanzibar. It takes almost 3hrs duration to explore the very fantastic history of this extraordinary site with it's narrowest streets in the world. As a cosmopolitan archipelago, Stone Town prouds of its amazing strong introduction of Indians, Chinese, Oman Arabs, Phoenicians, Sumerians, Persians, Assyrians, Portuguese, Egyptians, Dutch and British Cultures Combined with typical African traditions. The Arab tradition is predominant in urban design and architecture of Stone Town where the most impressive and admirable residential structures in town are the large Arab houses with a central courtyard (Patio) built in around 19th century. With an exotic mixture of population and culture, Stone town has more than 49 mosques, 2 Christian churches, 2 operating cinemas, 7 Banks, 4 Hindu temples, several shops, supermarkets, the buildings need repair and some have had collapsed already. It hardly takes half an hour driving by motorized boat to reach the wonderful west based historic island. It is originally called Changuu and was owned by a wealthy Arabian merchant who used it as detention centre for disobedient slaves during slavery. Under the leadership of the third Sultan of Zanzibar, just after the abolition of slave trade in 1873, the prison whose first aim was to keep recalcitrant prisoners was constructed to keep the standing name “Prison Island". However, the Island was then used as the quarantine station of all of east African countries following the out break of cholera disease along the coast of East Africa where the victims were collected in different parts before being sent to Changuu Island for further treatment. With its fantastic white sandy beach and spectacular natural forest teeming with variety of birds and small animals such peacocks and giant tortoise etc, the island is very famous for its richness in water based natural attractions hence it is among the best site for diving and snorkeling as well. 

After visiting the prison Island you will be dropped back at your hotel in the early evening.
