South of Auckland are the renowned Waitomo Caves. The Glowworm Caves, house deep limestone shafts and a soaring subterranean cathedral that will leave you speechless before you hop aboard your little boat and are enchanted by the thousands of magical glow-worms above as you glide gently and quietly through these world famous Caves.

After lunch at a local cafe, you will be taken to the Otorohanga Kiwi House to view New Zealand’s national bird, the flightless nocturnal rare Kiwi. There is also opportunity to view the pre historic ancient reptile the Tuatara which are hiding within an enclosure along with some of New Zealand's native birds within the park. Timing it right, you will see feeding time for the Great Spotted Kiwi.

Timing it right, you will see feeding time for the Great Spotted Kiwi.You will be picked up from your hotel and driven approximately 2.5 hours south of Auckland following the mighty Waikato River. This river is New Zealand’s longest river and winds some 425 kilometres throughout the centre of the north island. The name Waikato comes from the Maori language and  translates as flowing water.

On arrival at Waitomo Caves you will enter the Glowworm Caves, where you will see deep limestone shafts, stunning stalactites, stalagmites and a soaring subterranean cathedral that will leave you speechless before you hop aboard your little  boat and are enchanted by the thousands of magical glow-worms above as you glide gently and quietly through these world famous Caves.  The Cave tour takes approximately 45 minutes, with ample time after to browse the on site gift store.

After lunch at a local cafe, we visit the small country town of Otorohanga and it's Kiwi House, to view New Zealand’s national bird, the flightless nocturnal rare Kiwi. There is also opportunity to view the pre historic ancient reptile the Tuatara which are hiding within an enclosure along with some of our native birds within the park.  Timing it right, we may see feeding time for the Great Spotted Kiwi.

On returning to Auckland you will be dropped at your inner city accommodation.
