Why not come and experience the picturesque town of Gingin and Australia's only monastic town of New Norcia. This tour is a must for art lovers and people with an interest in history or anyone that just wants to escape to the peace and quite of the country for a day.Leaving Perth, make your way through the Swan Valley on the Brand Highway to Gingin, one of the oldest towns in Western Australia, having been settled in 1832, only two years after the establishment of the Swan River Colony. It has the charm of old original stone buildings within a picturesque natural setting. View the exterior of many of these including St Luke's Anglican Church built in 1860, Gingin Post Office built in 1886 and the Cheriton Estate Farm House built in 1843 before heading to the Town Railway Station, built by the Midland Railway and opened in 1891. A delicious devonshire tea will then be served by the Grand Dame Cafe where you will be able to wander through, viewing the antiques, collectables and luxurious natural fine alpaca garments from Mungala Alpaca Shop.
Travel inland through picturesque farmland to meet up with Great Northern Highway and onward to Australia's only Monastic town - New Norcia. Home to one of the finest collections of moveable heritage in Australia which include gifts from the Queen of Spain and many other fascinating artifacts which truly bring the town's 160-year old history to life. The six galleries feature religious paintings by Spanish, Italian and Australian artists. On arrival those that wish to, can join the Monks in the Monastery Oratory for midday prayers or alternatively have extra time in the Gallery.
At 12:30pm, enjoy lunch with a choice of grilled fish or chicken schnitzel followed by fresh fruit salad, tea and coffee on the verandah of the beautiful hotel built in 1927 overlooking the grounds.
Following lunch, join the 2-hour guided tour through the magnificent town. You will see some of New Norcia's richly decorated buildings, 27 of which are listed on the National Trust. Your guide will introduce you to the town's eclectic Monastic, Aboriginal and European heritage.
After the tour you will have ample time to view the Gallery and Museum. You will also have the opportunity to purchase an item or two from the gift shop that offers a range of local produce including bread, nutcake, pan chocolatti and olive oil.
At 4:15pm it is time to say farewell and wind your way back to Perth, via Bindoon and the Chittering Valley. Our expected arrival time will be 6:30pm.
