Known as America’s Greatest Gold Camp, these towns had over 500 mines which produced over 21 million ounces of gold exceeding the combined production of the California and Alaska Gold Rushes. The tour follows the old Cripple Creek and Florence Rail Road route which was built in 1894 and winds its way up through many abandoned mines as well as one state of the art gold mining operation still producing today, the CC&V Gold Mining Company.  Lunch is included at the Gold Camp Bakery Cafe’ and Deli in Victor Colorado.  The descent back will follow an old stage coach road which has been described by some as “a rough and rugged, back country, mountainous drive for the adventuresome.”

The Gold Belt Tour is more than just a great way to get away from the city and experience 360 degrees of heart pounding views.  Our dedicated and professional drivers will give interpretive talks about the history of the area and point out views like “Eye of the needle” rock, show you Indian petroglyphs, and keep a trained eye out for Colorado’s plentiful wildlife. One of the highlights of this Jeep excursion is stopping by Garden Park where fossil hunters and scientists have been digging for dinosaur remains since 1877.  The Marsh and Cleveland Quarries in Garden Park are known for the first complete skeletons of Stegosaurus and Allosaurus which are now exhibited in the Denver Museum of Natural History and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC. The scenery of this trip is enhanced during the Autumn due to the changing colors of the Aspens from varying greens, golds and reds.
