Spend your time in port in Grand Turk getting up close to North Atlantic humpback whales! Your 3.5-hour shore excursion takes you on a whale-watching adventure through the Turks and Caicos Islands. If you’re lucky, watch whales breach or observe mother humpbacks with their calves. Enjoy personal attention from expert guides on this small-group tour, limited to 12 passengers.
When your cruise ship docks in Grand Turk, make your way to the White Sands Beach Hotel, where you’ll meet your friendly captain and knowledgeable crew aboard a spacious 27-foot (8-meter) power catamaran. These experienced guides use technology and keen observation skills to track the humpback whales in the Turks Islands, taking care to approach the marine giants from a safe distance. (While spotting whales is common, it is not guaranteed during your expedition.)

Spending their winters in the temperate waters around Salt Cay and Grand Turk after a long southern migration, these whales are part of a 4,000-strong North Atlantic herd. The female humpback whale, the largest of the species, ranges in length from 40-45 feet (12-14 meters) long, while the male grows between 36-41 feet (11-12.5 meters) long. Humpback calves, 6-10 feet (2-3 meters) long and weighing 1,000 pounds (453 kilos) at birth, feed three times daily, consuming 80 gallons (302 liters) of their mother’s milk.

Keep a lookout for these magnificent creatures of the sea and learn to document their behavior under the expertise of your guides. No experience is more amazing than watching them breach just an arm’s reach from your boat or getting the chance to see a mother and calf in only 20 feet (6 meters) of water.

When your whale-watching expedition is over, find your way back to the cruise terminal in time for your departure.

Worry-free Shore Excursion:
We will ensure your excursion ends with ample time for you to return to the Grand Turk port for your ship’s departure. In the extremely unlikely event your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to the next port-of-call. If your ship is delayed and you are unable to attend this activity, your money will be refunded. See our terms and conditions for full details.
