Travel by coach along the scenic west coast of St Lucia, driving through lush tropical vegetation to the community of Fond Gens Libre, meaning 'Village of the Free People'– named after the freedom fighters who escaped in the 1748 slave rebellion and used the area as a safe haven.

When you arrive, head to the interpretation center to view exhibits about the vegetation and birds found in the area. Here, meet your knowledgeable guide, who will lead your group along the Gros Piton Nature Trail. The first half of the trail, which winds around the mountain’s base at a gradual gradient, is a moderate climb that can be enjoyed by everyone. The second half involves a steep ascent to Gros Piton’s summit – suitable to the more adventurous hiker.

Along the first section, enjoy panoramic vistas in every direction, including views of Choiseul Village and the Caribbean. Explore Anse L'lvrogne Canyon where caves, tunnels and rock-shelter hideouts pepper the landscape. Your guide will point out rare local birds like the St Lucian oriole and the St Lucia black finch.

If you choose to continue on the strenuous but exhilarating climb to the summit, you’ll be rewarded with amazing views, including Petit Piton in the distance. After an approximate four-hour hike round-trip, join the bus for the return journey to your St Lucia hotel.
