Most people renting motorcycles without a guide end up staying on the main road and never get to experience the best parts of Kauai. We will show you the hidden gems and sights you are likely to miss.I operate private, personalized, guided motorcycle tours of Kauai. I only book one private tour a day. Keeping the tour private allows me to design every tour around the particular needs of each client. Everyone is different, and everyone wants to see and experience different things.
I will normally speak on the phone with a client before their tour and get to know a few details about them and what they would like from their tour. I then will route the tour based upon their specific wants and needs. On average, a typical tour would entail the following:
We meet at Kauai Harley to pick up your rental motorcycle. Most folks want to go see Waimea Canyon, so we will usually begin by heading west to the canyon. There are many overlooks and pull-offs on the way up the canyon to stop and take pictures. We can stop as much as you desire, but I've narrowed it down to the best 5 or 6 spots if you prefer. At the top of the canyon I can take the "adventurous" folks on a 2 minute hike to an amazing "hidden" lookout. Depending on how long we took making our way to the top of the canyon and back down to Waimea, it is normally getting close to lunchtime. Lunch is at your discretion, and I will do whatever you wish. Most clients ask my opinion for a quick "local-style" lunch.
The direction we head next is another choice we would make together. We can head South and go through Lawai, Poipu, and Koloa. There are some great sites on the Southside, such as Spouting Horn, and Tree Tunnel. There is also a road in Poipu that runs along the beach and multi-million dollar homes. After cruising the Southside we would head east. If you don't want to see the South side we would start heading East after the canyon. The Eastside has some amazing mountain roads with beautiful homes and picturesque ocean views. Some sites on the Eastside include Wailua River, Opaekaa Falls, Sleeping Giant, Kapaa Town, and Kauai Ranch.
As small as Kauai is, it's not really possible to see it all in one day without completely rushing the entire time and not enjoying anything. So if you have selected a one-day rental from Harley this is usually the point where we need to turn around and return the bike. If you opted for the 24hr rental we can usually go a little farther north and see Anahola, Aliomanu, and Moloa'a before it gets dark.
If you would like to experience the North Shore on a motorcycle, AND you want to do Waimea Canyon I would suggest we do a 2-day tour. The two days are not required to be back-to back, and I do provide a discount for the second day. I can provide transportation if needed, including pick-up and return from a cruise ship.
