From there, you will be taken to visit the Monsopiad Cultural Village in Penampang – just a half hour’s drive out of Kota Kinabalu.

Enjoy passing by rice fields and village houses on stilts along the way.

At the Monsopiad Cultural Village you will have the opportunity to see the typical village of the Kadazan people – the largest ethnic group in Sabah. The reconstructed village was built on ancestral ground, the very area that Monsopiad lived and roamed some 300 years ago.

Just across the lane from Cultural Village is the Monsopiad House of Skulls. In the house a collection of 42 skulls hang from the rafters, those who had met their fate in the hands of the fearsome warrior. The skulls largely belonged to individuals such as marauding thugs and pirates who had attacked or tried to attack the village at that time. A narrator will take you through the history of head-hunting.

On display are ceramic jars, padi grinders, bamboo items as well as the costume of Bobohizan Inai Bianti – direct descendant of Monsopiad and very senior priestess.

The tour includes a cultural performance, handicraft activities and the opportunity to try your hand at the traditional dance along with a photo taking opportunity with the dance performers.

After your cultural experience has come to an end you will be taken back to your hotel safely.
