Take a guided wander through the atmospheric streets of the Old Quarter after dark, learning key aspects of night photography. We start with an overview of night settings and composition fundamentals in a cafe overlooking Hoan Kiem Lake. From a balcony high above the city, we snap panoramic pictures of nocturnal life around the lake, before moving onto the neon-lit night market leading up to Dong Xuan. The tour concludes with a feedback and editing workshop in an Old Quarter café.

Hanoi by Night takes in:
7 pm – Hotel pick-up
7:15 pm - Arrive at Highlands Cafe on Hoan Kiem Lake for overview of the tour. Welcome drink and introduction to night photography settings.
7:45 pm – Set up for night-time establishing shot over Hoan Kiem Lake. Focus on composition and light effects. Participants practise shooting from a tripod.
8:30 pm – Descend to Cau Go Street for shooting session along the stalls at Hanoi’s weekend night market. Focus here is on Relationship shots in busy locations with lots of articifical light.
9:15 pm – Shooting Portraits at goods stalls around Dong Xuan market. Dong Xuan is the capital’s main covered market, and at weekends often hosts performances of traditional song and theatre. Technical point: use and non-use of flash in Portraiture.
10 pm – Stop for drinks and feedback on photographs. How to choose and edit photographs for a 3 picture story.
10:30 pm – Farewell
