Your visit will commence with an introduction to hill sheep farming and history of the use of the Border Collie sheepdog and the indigenous Connemara Blackface Sheep that are held on the farm. This is followed by a practical demonstration of the sheepdog at work, expertly and skilfully herding sheep on the rugged terrain of Connemara. During the Summer months guests also have the opportunity to experience a sheep shearing demonstration and interaction with puppies bred on site. The visit concludes with a question and answer session, following which guests are welcome to enjoy the scenery at their leisure. The above is set against the backdrop of the Maumturk and Partry Mountains on the breathtakingly beautiful shores of Lough Nafooey which boasts one of the very few freshwater beaches in Ireland. Also visible from the site are the remains of ancient famine villages and potato ridges.
The farm is located 20 minutes drive from the Wild Atlantic Way and 25 minutes by car from the historic village of Cong, world renowned for its associations with the movie 'The Quiet Man'. Joe is also no stranger to Hollywood in that himself and his dog Roy were involved in the filming of a sequence for the movie 'Marley & Me', starring Jennifer Anniston and Owen Wilson. So if you are seeking an authentic Irish experience with a chance to really get away from it all, this is the ideal attraction for you and we look forward to seeing you!
