Your informative guide will show you to a great viewing spot for the majestic Itsukushima Shrine. Visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum to tour the profound exhibits, many of which include remnants from the 1945 atomic bombing of the city. This 12-hour tour begins with morning pickup at the New Miyako Hotel. Transfer to Kyoto Station, where you’ll board the bullet train for a scenic ride to Hiroshima Station. Your guide will explain some of Hiroshima’s most fascinating historic sites as you zip along the railway.
When you arrive at the station switch to another train, or board a coach vehicle, to travel to Miyajimaguchi, where you’ll transfer to a boat bound for Miyajima, known since ancient times as the Sacred Island, and one of Japan’s most beautiful landscapes. Explore the island for 45 minutes, as your guide details the history of the island’s iconic red Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage site which appears to float on the water at high tide.
After lunch (own expense), reboard the ship and cruise back to Hiroshima to visit Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site located near where the atomic bomb landed. Visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, featuring exhibitions related to the nuclear bomb and Hiroshima’s admirable recovery.
You can take a bus or a train to the final stop, the Genbaku Dome (aka the Atomic Bomb Dome or Hiroshima Peace Memorial), one of the few buildings that survived the bombing in 1945. From there, head back to Hiroshima Station to board the 2-hour bullet train back to Kyoto Station, where the tour concludes.
