Dress up warmly and and make your own way to the tour starting point in central Luosto. Hop into your car or minivan with your guide and admire the scenic winter landscapes as you travel into the countryside to a husky farm, which is home to around 180 Alaskan and Siberian huskies.
As you approach, hear the eager barks of the beautiful huskies and meet an expert instructor who will introduce you to the dogs and explain the experience ahead. Then, board your wooden, 2-person husky-drawn sled, a time-honored form of transport in Lapland.
Listen to a safety briefing and instructions on driving your sled, and learn how to use the brakes to stop and slow the huskies. The sleds are easy to control, and most people master the art very quickly! Choose to stand on the sled runners and mush your dog team, or sit inside your sled — it’s up to you and you’re free to take turns during your safari.
Hold tight as your dogs set off and gather pace, falling silent as they speed over the snow. Breathe in the brisk Arctic air as you zoom through pine glades and the Narnia-like countryside. The only sound is of the huskies’ paws and sled runners swooshing through the snow, making for a magical experience.
After your 6-mile safari, leave your sled and enjoy a hot berry juice by an open fire. Chat to the head musher (a person who drives or travels with a dog sled) and learn about the hardworking huskies and their lives at the farm. You’ll also meet some adorable young pups, who will be more than eager to greet you!
Then, return to your car or minivan for your drive back to Luosto, where your experience finishes.
