The Loop is a popular activity for families and groups to experience the Exeter Estuary and Canal and all its stunning wildlife, starting at the Turf Locks Hotel. You can start the activity by either going up the estuary with the incoming tide to Topsham Cottages, portage (carry the boat) over to the canal (approximately 20 meters) and back down to Turf or going up the canal to Topsham Cottages and portage over to the estuary and head down with the outgoing tide to Turf.

At Topsham you will find a beautiful picnic area to have lunch (own expense) or alternatively use Topsham Cottages (July to August only). You can also choose to head over to Topsham Town where you will find a range of pubs, restaurants and shops.
Overlooking the Exeter Estuary and situated in an area of outstanding and protected natural beauty at the end of the historic Exeter Canal,
The Turf Hotel provides a wonderful setting where you can relax and enjoy great food and drinks and friendly service from a family run pub.
Clive and Ginny Redfern took over the Turf in 1990 and together with their sons James and Oliver have continued to renovate and improve this fascinating timber framed slate hung listed building. This is a proper pub: there are no carpets, just pine strip floors making the pub ideal for both muddy paws and muddy kids, which are both most welcome.
